LONESOME Monday afternoons need be no more for Lostock Green’s ‘more mature’ folk, who can now enjoy a weekly get-together.

Monday Social Club meet between 2pm and 4pm every week at the Village Rooms in the Methodist Church on Birches Lane.

The weekly get-together gives people a chance to socialise, chat and catch up on local news, play games such as whist or dominos – including prize winners – Rummikub, chess and draughts.

Everything stops for tea at 3pm with home baked cakes or Vera’s tasty fruit scones, cheese scones and Lincolnshire plum bread.

Long time member Don Jackson said: “Elvis used to sing ‘Are you lonesome tonight’. Well, there’s no need to be lonesome on a Monday afternoon.

“We welcome new members to keep the Social Club viable and vibrant. It’s an enjoyable afternoon playing whist and dominoes or any other game you want.

“We have afternoon tea and when our funds permit a lunch at a local pub. Please come along to the Village Rooms on any Monday afternoon and you’ll be pleased to find what an enjoyable afternoon can be had.”

It is also a chance to bring or share knitting, sewing, craft work, jigsaws or photos while having a chat.

Thanks to a grant from Lostock Gralam Parish Council, the Lostock Green Monday Social Club celebrated last Christmas with a special meal.

The club will also host a Spring Afternoon Tea holding on Monday, April 28 for residents of Lostock Green and local areas.
