Murder in Davenham

11:00am Sunday 23rd February 2014

A MURDER involving a Scout group and hundreds of pounds has been investigated in Davenham.

But far from being a sinister incident that shattered the peace in Firth Fields, the event was instead an imaginative murder mystery night that raised £800 for a village group.

More than 990 people attended the Who Killed Cupid Murder Mystery event, which was held at the Royal British Legion and organised by 1st Davenham Scouts.

The night included a cast of actors from the village taking on a range of humorously named parts, including actress and bride-to-be Joan Bollins, played by Katy Galloway, and director Seymour Films, played by Alastair Kennedy.

The Scout group organised the event to raise funds after a flood in its church hall base three years ago.

Pat Barlow, from the Scout group, said: “We have not had a permanent base for more than three years and all sections are currently operating from different locations.

“Scouts have a temporary location but there is a lot of maintenance and upgrading of the building which is depleting our funds drastically.”

The cast and crew held about six rehearsals before the event, but disaster struck on the day before when Angie Orme, who was to play Lucinda Marbles, was involved in a car accident by Lidl in Northwich and could not attend.

Her place was instead filled by Wendy Sinfield, who stepped in at 1pm on the day of the event.

Actors stayed in character throughout and there were musical performances from the characters Zoe Prano, played by Carol Wilson, and Aaron Ageestring, played by Alex Cleaver.

Guests enjoyed a three-course meal provided by Foodcraft, in Winsford, and a raffle, with the top prize of a holiday and ferry crossing donated by Eurocamp.

Pat said: “We are going to do again, as people have remarked what a wonderful night they had.
