A SHOW home at a new extra care housing scheme in Kingsmead has been officially opened.

The new development, called Anderton Place, is being built in partnership between affordable homes provider Wulvern and Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC), partly funded with a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA).

Sue Lock, Wulvern’s chief executive, said: “We’re delighted to see the show home now open. It brings us a step closer to welcoming the first residents. As Northwich’s first Extra Care scheme, Anderton Place will provide much-needed housing and support for older people, helping them to remain independent for longer.”

Sue was joined by Neil Pickering, head of area for the HCA, Clr Brenda Dowding, CWAC’s executive member for adult social care and health, and Harold Carr, the first person to reserve an apartment, for the ribbon cutting ceremony.

Anderton Place, in Sandbach Drive, is due for completion in July 2014 and will feature 58 one and two bedroom extra care apartments available to rent or to buy on a shared ownership basis.

There will also be a bistro, hair and beauty salon, communal lounge and entertainment area, landscaped gardens, spa bathroom, IT suite and a wide range of social activities and events.

The communal facilities will also be available for the wider community.

Senior Development Officer, Ann Lander, explains: “Extra Care housing is the perfect choice for older people looking to enjoy an independent lifestyle. As a non-profit making organisation, Wulvern is able to ensure Extra Care living is affordable to all whether you are looking to rent or purchase a home at Anderton Place.”
