Coffee evening forms part of the CWEST to help people with eating disorders
A COFFEE evening has been organised in Northwich for people to find out more about support for eating disorders.
The Cheshire West Eating Support Team (CWEST) is holding the event at Cheshire Carers Centre, in London Road, from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday, February 27.
It is aimed as a drop in for people wanting support, including family, friends and carers.
Helen Davies, who set up the team three years ago, said: “The first time people come to a meeting it can be quite daunting and we often arrange to meet people at a cafe or pub first.
“The coffee and chat night means people can just drop in, take a leaflet, have a chat then decide if they want to come back to a meeting or if they want more information.”
The evening coincides with national Eating Disorders Awareness Week, organised by the charity Beat, which is from February 24 to March 2.
Helen said: “Just after the national week we do get a few calls, which is nice.
“It creates a bit more awareness because it’s on the radio and TV.”
CWEST’s carers group meets from 6.30pm to 8pm on the second Thursday of every month and its recovery group meets at the same time on the fourth Thursday of every month.
The groups meet at the carers centre, in London Road.
Helen said: “We have had some nice success stories.
“You see people in new relationships and a couple of people have very very much moved on, it’s nice when you bump into them in town.
“Or there are people who are still part of the group that have made considerable progress.
“Rome wasn’t built in a day but you can see gradual change in people.”
