A ‘DANGEROUS’ Rudheath road will not be lit, despite concerns over a lack of street lighting and a narrow pavement.

Stuart Griffiths, of Cottage Close, is concerned an accident will take place on rural Griffiths Road because of the lack of street lighting.

However, Cheshire West and Chester Council said it has no plans to install lighting as it wishes to keep the area rural.

A spokesperson said: “There isn’t any lighting down there as it’s a very rural environment and we plan to keep it as such, so have no plans to install any lighting.

“There haven’t been any accidents there regarding pedestrians. That’s not a precursor to whether work takes place, but is something we look at.”

Mr Griffiths, 43, said having a narrow pavement with no street lighting was dangerous, especially for parents with young children.

“It’s dangerous with no street lights,” he said. “Especially for kids who have to walk that way to town or for young children and mums with pushchairs, it must be a concern for them.

“The pavement is too narrow and in poor condition, dangerous enough on a well lit road. The speed at which vehicles travel along that road make it more hazardous to walk along.

“Quite often I’m blinded by cars with their lights on full beam and covered in spray from wagons that are too close for comfort.”

A council spokesperson added: “Our Street Scene team is going to go out and see if there are any issues with the path and cut back any vegetation if necessary.”
