A LAWRENCE of Arabia fan is near to achieving his dream of staging a play about his hero.

Andrew Wright, from Pickmere, first attempted to put on the play Ross – a Dramatic Portrait in Northwich in 2012, but drew a blank because the cast numbers were too big.

But, undeterred, Andrew has found a different play about TE Lawrence called The Oxford Roof Climber’s Rebellion by Canadian playwright Stephen Massicotte.

The play, about Lawrence and his friend Robert Graves, was written in 2006 and has only been performed in Canada and America.

Andrew is celebrating as the play will be put on by an amateur theatre group in Oxford in September.

He said: “Because this new play has a manageable cast size of five actors I resolved to try and get it put on.

“I decided to try and get the play put on in Oxford to coincide with the T E Lawrence Society bi-annual Symposium in September 2014.

“I spent a year writing and cajoling theatres, drama groups and actors in Oxford before it was finally accepted by a group called the St Peter's Players.

“The Players are currently rehearsing the play and I will be promoting it.

“I will be thrilled to go see the play in Oxford in September after three years of work.”
