Get ready to run for The Joshua Tree

2:40pm Thursday 23rd January 2014

RUNNERS are being invited to dust off their trainers and fancy dress for a fun run at Marbury Park in April.

The Joshua Tree family fun run takes place on Saturday, April 26, and gives participants chance to stroll, jog or run a 2.5km or 5km course through the woodlands.

Both events are open to all ages and the course is buggy and wheelchair friendly.

Jo Pritchard, charity manager, said the 2.5km route was ideal for people with dogs and families with children in or out of buggies.

“It’s open to all ages and abilities and is designed as a fun event for families – we have seen the silly sock themed costumes, and others, getting greater in concept and number over the years, adding to the carnival atmosphere,” she said.

“Families are encouraged to make a day of it by bringing a picnic to enjoy in the park amidst the beautiful scenery overlooking the mere, in the woodland and parkland, or in the fabulous children’s play areas.

“The last few years have been lovely weather and the fresh air does seem to build up an appetite.”

Children under seven on race day can enter free and there are discounts for pre-booked entries for individuals, families and groups.

The event features goody bags for all pre-entries, medals and spot prizes and trophies for costumes and race winners.

Times will be recorded on The Joshua Tree’s website.

Jo said the 5km event was slightly more serious.

“This is a fabulous event if you are just starting running and want a timed course but no real pressure, and likewise if you are building your speed or experience,” she said.

“It’s all very friendly and professionally run by Vale Royal Athletics Club, so the course and time can be taken seriously too.”

The event starts at 10am, with warm ups and cool downs by Theresa Bateman, from FabbFitness.
