Race for Life in Delamere Forest adds 10K to its day
A GREATER challenge is in store for women who want more ammunition in the fight against cancer.
This year’s Delamere Forest event will feature a 10K route and a second 5K route in the afternoon, as well as the traditional 5K route in the morning.
Cancer Research UK has organised the event and is calling on women of all ages, shapes and sizes to take part on Sunday, May 18.
Jennifer Ward, Cancer Research UK’s Cheshire Delamere events manager, said: “We’re calling on Cheshire’s mighty-mums, gutsy-grans, feisty friends and go-getting girls to join our formidable army and take on cancer at this year’s Race for Life.
“We know how committed Cheshire women can be when they really make up their minds to do something.
“We want to harness that power to stop cancer in its tracks, by raising money for life-saving research.
“Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast.
“Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun.
“Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.”
Last year, 1,623 women took part in Race for Life at Delamere Forest and raised £100,949.
This year, organisers need 2,200 women and girls to raise £200,000 and help the 38,800 people who are diagnosed with cancer in the north west every year.
Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across the region.
The charity receives no Government funding for its ground-breaking work.
Jennifer said: “Race for Life is an amazing way to celebrate life but also remember those who have been lost to the disease.
“There are more than 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all.”
