INCONSIDERATE cycling and burglaries from out buildings form part of Cheshire Constabulary’s policing priorities for Northwich during the month ahead.

Officers will also step up patrols to curb anti-social behaviour in the town centre throughout January, targeting areas around McDonalds and the new Waitrose marina.

A spokesman for Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “It has come to our attention that inconsiderate cycling is becoming and increasing problem across all areas of Northwich.

“The pedestrian areas of Witton Street and High Street are no cycling zones, as are the majority of pavements, unless designated as cycle paths.

“The police have various powers in tackling this behaviour including the right to issue fixed penalty notices which I will be encouraging officers to issue.”

Dedicated patrols will also be tackling an increase in burglaries from sheds, garages and other outbuildings, during which small electrical items and cash have been stolen.

Meanwhile, officers have been liaising with shop owners in Northwich town centre to drive down incidents of anti-social behaviour.

The spokesman added: “Anti-social behaviour has increased recently on the town centre, particularly around McDonalds and the new marina next to Waitrose.

“We are keen to minimise such incidents and have been speaking with staff at both locations to offer advice and identify the ringleaders.”

In Winsford, priorities include motoring offences, the drugs supply chain and shoplifting.

A spokesman for Winsford Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The supply of and use of drugs remains a priority.

“We will take positive action in respect of persons and premises associated with drug activity throughout January.”

Officers will also target illegal drivers, including speeding, seat belt and mobile phone offences.
