ROADWORKS will start again in the New Year as Northwich’s one-way system is made permanent.

The second phase of construction, which involves upgrading the junction between Castle Street and Chesterway, will start on Monday, January 6.

The existing temporary system will be converted into a permanent road layout with new traffic signals between Castle Street and Chester Way.

The zebra crossing near to Town Bridge will also be upgraded to a controlled crossing and the surrounding roads will be resurfaced.

Temporary traffic signals will be in operation for the majority of the works which are expected to take about 12 weeks to complete.

The main resurfacing works will take place in the evening under road closures which will be advertised nearer to the time.

Clr Lynn Riley, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s executive member for localities, said: “I would like to thank local residents and motorists for their patience during the recent works to improve the junction at Chesterway and London Road.

“This next junction upgrade, at Castle Street and Chesterway, is a major project and there is likely to be some disruption during construction.

“However, I can assure road users that we will do our best to mitigate delays while maintaining pedestrian access.”

The first phase included improvements at the Chesterway and London Road crossroads, which started in September and finished in mid-November.

The final phase, which includes work at both the Bull Ring and Seafarer junctions, will take place in the summer.

Cycle provision will include toucan crossings, shared cycle and footpaths, advanced stop lines and Trixie mirrors.
