A WORLD of elves, humans, orcs and trolls has been created by a Davenham-born author.

Vivienne Sang, neé Hughes, has published her first fantasy novel, The Wolf Pack, which is part of a larger saga set in the fictional world of Vimar.

The teacher was intrduced to the fantasy genre by a former pupil and the work of a legendary author.

She said: “I discovered fantasy thanks to a small boy on my second teaching practice in Irlam, near Manchester.

“He was reading The Lord of the Rings and asked me if I’d ever read it.

“I said I’d not, but he said I should read The Hobbit first.

“I found it in the college library and from then on I was hooked.

“Later on I started a Dungeons and Dragons club at one of the schools and wrote a scenario, which has developed into the books.

“I don’t think any of the players would recognise it though, it has developed of its own will.”

Vivienne was born at home in 610 London Road in 1944.

The mum-of-two was brought up in Davenham and attended the village school, The Grange School in Hartford when it was just a primary school, Sir John Deane’s Grammar School and the girls’ grammar school at Leftwich.

She did her teacher training in Manchester and has lived in Rochdale, Cambridge and Southampton before retiring with her husband to East Sussex.

As well as working on further books in The Wolves of Vimar series, Vivienne is also working on an important part of her family history.

“I am currently in the process of writing down all my recipes gathered throughout the years, many of which are old family recipes, and I intend to publish that,” she said.

“I am also workingon a novel set in Roman Britain about a slave boy who wants to get revenge on the Romans for making him a slave.”
