DRESSMAKING talent was evident when 300 colourful and imaginative outfits were exhibited in a one-day event at the VAC Gallery.

The gallery, in Brunner Court, joined in an international charitable appeal called Dress a Girl Around the World and challenged the community to make dresses for girls living in poverty in third world countries.

Volunteers were overwhelmed with the response, with dresses made using a variety of fabrics and embellished with lace trimmings, pockets, buttons and even home-made teddy bears.

Gill Snowball, from the gallery said: “Even people who couldn’t sew were coming in with donations of fabric and elastic.

“It’s touched so many people.”

The gallery also praised Northwich’s craft shops who donated items for the project.

The dresses were sent off after the exhibition and will reach their new owners in the New Year.
