All roads lead to Whitegate after village pub launches new walking guides

First published in News

Regulars at a Whitegate pub have put their local knowledge to good use by creating a number of new walking guides, taking in the area’s outstanding natural beauty.

The Plough Inn has published six new tried and tested walks which are free to download from the pub’s website or can be picked up at the bar.

The walks, which start and end at the popular hostelry in Beauty Bank, incorporate a number of picturesque and historic sites including the Weaver Navigation and Vale Royal Locks, Whitegate Way, Vale Royal Abbey, Marton Quarry Pool and some of the forgotten grounds of the former Delamere estate.

David Hughes, who has managed the Plough for more than 15 years, said: “The pub is already a popular start and finishing point for walkers who come from miles around to enjoy this part of Cheshire so we thought it would be a great idea to use our local knowledge and offer some less well known routes for enthusiasts to enjoy.

“The routes are quite varied in size and nature from secluded woods and pastures to pools, lakes and the area’s important industrial heritage, so I think there is something for everyone.”

Each guide includes detailed directions, an illustrated map and a description of the history and heritage which can be spotted along the way.

“It was great fun to be able to put something like this together and I believe we have come up with some fantastic walks that you won’t find in any other guide book of the area,” David added.

“All the walks have been tested by the regulars here, who fortunately returned without getting lost!”

All six walks will be available to download from the Plough Inn’s website this month. To find out more visit:
