STAFF at Barclays have cashed in on something more valuable to some than cheques this Christmas.

In support of Link to Hope, formerly Link Romania, staff and family members packed 650 shoeboxes to donate to countries in Eastern Europe, which struggle with poverty, illness and lack of education.

This is the 10th year that staff at Gadbrook Park have been raising funds to purchase items for the shoeboxes, and many donate toys, toiletries and other luxury items.

Tracey Evans, from Barclays, said: “We’re delighted with the result and to have been involved in Link to Hope’s amazing project.

“Barclays has a fantastic community investment programme that encourages employees to get involved in the charities and causes that are important to them. It’s about giving back our skills, time and energy to support charities.”

Link to Hope works in countries in Europe that struggle with poverty, illness and lack of education. For the past 20 years, every Christmas it has run a successful Shoebox Smiles appeal, which Barclays’ staff at Gadbrook park have supported for the past 10 years.
