RECYCLING will soon become even easier for Northwich residents following improvements to the town’s household waste recycling centre (HWRC).

The refurbishment of the Marbury Lane facility will see three new skips introduced for small electrical appliances, large electrical appliances and hard plastics.

The layout of the site will also be altered to accommodate gantries to improve access to skips.

Work to implement the improvements began on Monday and is expected to take three weeks to complete.

The site will remain open but access may be restricted during the works.

Clr Lynn Riley, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s (CWAC) executive member for localities, said: “These improvements will make it easier for people to dispose of their unwanted electrical appliances, which in turn we hope will help to increase the amount of items we collect.

“We are also introducing a skip for hard plastics, which is an entirely new stream of recyclable waste.

“Although the HWRC will remain open as normal during the improvement works, access may be restricted so we would ask our customers to please bear with us.”

The improvements are being funded by Valpak Limited under its Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) contract with CWAC.

Northwich HWRC reuses or recycles small and large electrical items, televisions and monitors, fridge/ freezers and fluorescent bulbs.

Since April 2013 the facility has received more than 200 tonnes of WEEE and reused more than 100 large appliances and fridge/freezers.

Northwich residents who wish to use an alternative site during the works are advised to use the facility at Leslie Road, Winsford.
