A COUPLE from Lower Peover are appealing for drivers to take extra care when heading through the village after a car smashed into their wall and destroyed their newly-erected shed.

Michelle and Neil Farrimond of Walnut Cottage, Middlewich Road, were relaxing in their home on Friday, November 1, when they were startled by a loud bang.

Neil, 50, told the Guardian the couple’s new shed had been destroyed.

“We were cooking a meal on Friday evening at around 8.15pm – we’re right on the road and were in the kitchen when we heard this loud bang,” he said.

“We didn’t know what had caused it so we went outside and saw the car with steam coming out of it.

“It had crashed into our wall which was completely taken out, and our shed which had only been up for five days.

“Our initial reaction was to see how the driver was.

“He said he was OK and then started to drive off.”

He continued: “Bits of brick went flying everywhere.

“There are marks on the house wall and a mark on the window where a brick hit it but hasn’t smashed – right where I was stood while cooking our evening meal.

“It’s never happened in all the time we’ve lived here, but the previous owners had a similar incident, which is why there’s a brick wall there rather than a wooden fence like it was originally.”

Michelle, 40, said: “We immediately thought it was going to come into the house but managed to run to the front door where we found an elderly couple and no other vehicle.

“Our immediate reaction was the welfare of this couple, and they then drove off.

“We now have no protection for our house, and I can see this taking months to complete as the road will require temporary traffic lights for the safety of the workmen.”

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At 8.23pm on Friday, November 1, police attended a one-vehicle collision in Middlewich Road, Lower Peover.

“A blue Ford Focus had collided with a garden wall resulting in extensive damage to the car and the wall.

“The driver left the scene but was located the following day and spoken to regarding the incident. The driver and passenger were not injured.

“The incident is now going through the respective insurers.”
