PROPOSALS to build a 249 bay car park on Lostock Triangle will be supported by the parish council.

Lostock Gralam Parish Council discussed the plans at their latest meeting, where it was agreed that the site was currently lacking in parking provisions.

Clr Mark Stocks, CWAC councillor for Shakerley said he was concerned about the proposals as the developer, Commercial Development Projects Ltd, had previously stated there would be no further loss of employment land following the approval of 146 homes in March – which will be built on a 5.15 hectare site off Cheshire Avenue, within the business park.

This was also the view of parish Clr Jon Atherton, who said: “It just seems like another erosion of the employment on that site.”

But Clr Peter Kelly said he felt it was a good idea.

He said: “If you go there during the day there are cars parked on either side of the road – they have to be able to park somewhere else.”

Clr Ann McEllin said: “Not everything on there is occupied at the moment but when they are, we are going to need as much parking as we can get.

“If we ask people, they would say that they would much rather have people parking on the Triangle than parking on the other roads and for that reason I am happy to have it there.”

The council voted to support the scheme and suggested the car park should have a height restriction to prevent heavy goods vehicles from using it.
