Barnton singer needs your help
A BARNTON singer is appealing for the public to help her reach the next stage of one of the UK’s largest singing competitions and make her dreams of becoming a performer a reality.
Sarah Emily Shaw impressed judges at the north west auditions of Open Mic UK, making it through to the regional final in Liverpool on October 27.
The 19-year-old, who sang Mama Knows Best by Jessie J in front of a capacity audience, currently works as a customer service advisor at Argos but hopes Open Mic may be the first step to her dreams of becoming a performer of performance coach.
She said: “After the 20 plus acts had all performed there was an interval while the judges decided who they wanted to proceed to the next round.
“There were seven spots available, five of which the judges chose straight away and then the next three highest scoring acts were then taken on stage – myself included.
“Unfortunately I came joint seventh at this point with another act but my judges feedback was really positive and they said my performance was feisty and fun.”
Despite not making it into the top seven, the former Sir John Deane’s College student still has the chance to make it through to the area final in Wakefield in December via the competition’s wildcard system.
“The public, friends and family need to help me carry on my journey,” said Sarah, who has been singing since she was introduced to Dolly Parton and Etta James by her nan at the age of 12.
“Voting closes on November 13 so I don’t have long to drum up as much support as possible.”
If successful in both the wildcard and area finals, Sarah – who has entered competitions including Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor - will progress to the grand final at the O2 in London.
Sarah also won the Publicity and Press award which entitles her to a session in one of Liverpool’s top recording studios.
She said: “I would like to thank the Northwich Guardian, Mid Cheshire Radio and also Cheshire Music Podcast for all giving me the opportunity to broadcast my news to the local area.”
