Knitting needles at the ready for crafty Christmas competition
A NORTHWICH business is encouraging its fellow knitters to pick up their needles and get creative this festive period.
Staff at Witton Street’s Crafty Stitches have come up with an interesting yarn to get both young and old alike into the Christmas spirit with their very own Christmas jumper competition.
Louise Hough, who runs the shop with her mum Joan Hubbard, said: “We have a knitting club on a Tuesday evening and we do all sorts of projects.
“This time we thought we’d do a Christmas jumper and decided to open it up to everyone – it’s something a little bit different, creative and gets the imagination going.
“People can either stick to the patterns or they can come up with their own ideas.
“We’re looking for the best Christmas jumper – it has to be a handmade jumper, not a shop bought one and it has to be one you’ve made this year, rather than last year.”
A second competition to knit the best Christmas hat is also available for those who don’t feel they can manage a full jumper.
Louise added: “Christmas jumpers have really taken off over the last year or so I think now is the time to do it and starting it now gives people plenty of time to get going.”
Winners will be chosen by the best design and use of imagination and will be notified on December 23.
To enter, pop in store to complete an entry form and buy your wool or pattern. Submit a picture of your completed jumper and/or hat by December 20.
Prizes for the best jumper include a £10 gift voucher, knitting bag and goodies worth £40 while those winning the hat competition will receive a £5 gift voucher and needle case worth £20.
