THE suggested diversion route for forthcoming roadworks in Northwich will lead drivers on an 11-mile round trip of the town’s outlying villages.

Road closures will be in place between 4pm-midnight on successive Sundays, October 27 and November 3, as work continues on the £4.9 million scheme to make the temporary town centre gyratory permanent.

But drivers heading for certain parts of town will be advised to venture via Kingsmead, Davenham double back along the A556 via Cuddington and Sandiway, before turning onto the A559 Chester Road through Hartford.

Clr Lynn Riley, executive member for localities, said the works would particularly affect motorists heading for the Castle, Hartford, Winnington and Barnton areas after the closures take affect.

She said: “We have scheduled the closure during what is usually a quiet time on the roads to minimise disruption.

“However, we do appreciate it will cause some inconvenience and I would like to thank motorists in advance for their patience.”

On October 27, Chester Way between London Road and Navigation Road, over Hayhurst Bridge, will be closed to all traffic.

Variable message signs have been erected on site at key locations to inform motorists and additional signs will be erected on Chester Road, Castle and Winnington Street.

Queens Street will need to be closured and access for residents will be via London Road. Dane Street will be closed at Chester Way, but a traffic management operative will grant resident’s access via Watling Street.

The following Sunday, November 3, London Road between Drillfield Road and Chester Way will be closed to all traffic.

The signed diversion route will again be via London Road, the A556 and Chester Road, Hartford.

The council said all affected residents would be informed of the arrangements and that emergency vehicles will be allowed through the works in emergency situations.
