A GARDENER is setting up weightloss groups in Winnington and Barnton after losing more than a sack of potatoes in weight in a year.
Hilary Healey said she found weight creeping on after she turned 40 and noticed her health start to suffer as well as finding it harder to enjoy her hobbies.
The 57-year-old said: “Being 5'11" it's easy to believe people when they say ‘Oh, but you're so tall, you don't look overweight’, but if I was honest with myself, I knew I had a big problem.
"I found I could no longer do the things I loved.
“Gardening and walking the dogs were a chore, and fell walking in the Lake District became a thing of the past.
“I felt that I had lost my identity.”
After being prescribed daily medication for heartburn and indigestion and on the verge of needing more medication for high blood pressure, Hilary decided to join a Slimming World group, which she started going to in February 2012.
Within a year she lost four-and-a-half stone and has managed to stay at her target weight.
She said: “Walking the dogs is now a joy, I've got an allotment to grow my own beautiful fresh fruit and veg, and had a fantastic holiday walking in the Lakes. Things I simply couldn't have done 18 months ago.
“Even more importantly, I don't need any medication at all – no heartburn, no indigestion and normal blood pressure.
“Put simply, I'm me again.”
Hilary is now a Slimming World consultant herself.
She is relaunching the Winnington group at Winnington Park Community Primary School on October 31 and the Barnton Community Centre group on November 4.
