Barnton children learn the dangers of trucks
11:20am Friday 18th October 2013 in News
A LORRY parked up in a school playground to show Barnton children the dangers of trucks.
Key Stage Two pupils at Barnton Primary School took part in a truck and child safety awareness programme run by DHL UK Foundation and DHL employees.
Demonstrators brought a 40ft lorry into the playground as a visual aid, to bring home to young children the risks and threat trucks present.
The children learnt what a driver can or cannot see in the mirrors, just how loud the engine is, what and where the vehicle's blind spots are and how difficult it is for a driver to hear a child shouting from inside the cab.
They also found out what to do if a football runs under the truck and where to stand safely on the pavement.
Gayle Thompson, from the school, said: “The course was enjoyable and interactive whilst getting across a very serious message.”
