Park revamp in the pipeline
3:10pm Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
A FOOTBALL pitch may be reinstated in Kingsmead during work to improve parks and play areas.
Kingsmead Parish Council is working through a programme of park redevelopment, which saw Kingslawn Park refurbished in the summer.
Now its focus has turned to Kensington Way park, which includes play facilities for young children and a football area.
Clr Emma Bannister, from the council’s parks committee, said: “There’s a big football area to consider and a children’s park.
“At the moment we haven’t got the money to do both now as the other park took more than expected.
“Maybe we could reinstate some football goals on the big area and perhaps resurface it because it’s horrible at the moment and down to gravel in places.”
But councillors fear this could also cost more than expected.
Clr Andrew Murison said: “There’s the nasty problem of drainage – the field is boggy and it retains it.
“There’s an old field drain there that doesn’t work.”
The council decided it needed to investigate the costs of the work further and find out what residents want.
Clr Bannister said: “Now we’re past summer we’re not in any great rush.”
