Sir John Deane's picture finds a good home
TWO former Northwich students have got a permanent reminder of their school years thanks to the generosity of a fellow student and an appeal in the Guardian.
Last month saw former Sir John Deane’s Grammar School pupil Alan Leicester appeal for fellow classmates to give an old school photograph a place to call home.
The 72-year-old from Davenham, who studied at the school for seven years from 1953 had found himself in possession of that year’s school photograph.
Unfortunately, Alan only started in September of 1953 and with the photograph having been taken earlier in the year, it did not feature him.
Dozens of calls followed the Guardian’s appeal to find the photograph a new home, with Barnton resident David Kenny the first to call.
But on taking the photograph home, the 73-year-old realised he already had it.
He said: “I have a few old school photographs from back in the day but when I got the ’53 photo home I realised that I already had it – it just wasn’t in a frame.”
Unable to find use for two photographs, David donated the unframed version to the Guardian, where it was then collected by Moulton resident Ted Yarwood.
“It brings back a lot of memories,” said 78-year-old Ted.
“It was a little creased but I’ve flatted it out and it looks good as new.
“I’m going to get it framed and display it in the cabinet next to the one I have from 1951.”
