Vale Royal Crematorium construction well underway
CONSTRUCTION is well underway to provide Northwich with its very own crematorium.
Work has now started on Vale Royal Crematorium on land off Shurlach Lane, Davenham.
The development – which is being built by Westerleigh Group and Frodsham-based Aspect Construction – is due to be completed in February, with services expected to start as early as March.
Richard Evans, Westerleigh’s managing director, told the Guardian, that they are making good progress.
He said: “A central road into the site has been excavated and stoned to provide access to the main building where its foundations are currently being laid.”
Westerleigh applied to Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) to build the facility last year, with the plans unanimously approved by the council’s strategic planning committee in April.
A number of technical issues and administrative omission by the council meant the decision was legally flawed and Westerleigh had to seek approval again in August, with CWAC’s strategic planning committee once again unanimously approving the scheme.
Mr Evans added: “Lots of people have been in touch with me since they heard we were going ahead to say how much it is needed and they are glad that there will finally be something more local and modern to choose.”
