A SELF-confessed shoeaholic from Winnington is hoping to follow in the footsteps of some of the world’s greatest designers with her range of customised high tops and bags.
Mother-of-one Leanne Williams, of Moss Terrace, set up Rock N Ruby last autumn as a hobby and a way of gaining valuable insight into the world of business alongside her degree in business management.
Since then, the 34-year-old sole proprietor, who studied art and design with fashion and illustration at Mid Cheshire College, has seen an increase in demand.
“The idea came about originally with a pair of boots for my daughter,” said Leanne, who lives with husband Albert, five-year-old Ruby and dogs Max and Paddy.
“She saw a pair she wanted but they were very expensive so I decided to have a go myself.
“I shared the final outcome on my Facebook page and they caught the attention of a few people – one being my work colleague, who asked me to create a pair of boots for her little boy with a passion for Spiderman.
“I will always be eternally grateful to that colleague for giving me that opportunity.”
Leanne, who operates out of her converted basement, uses specialist water, smudge and dirt proof paint to create whatever design her customers’ desire and since starting the business, the sole trader has been responsible for creating high-tops and bags featuring famous faces including Take That, Lady Gaga, One Direction, Mickey Mouse and Batman.
She has also designed shoes for Northwich’s very own disc jockey David Lee, crew outfits for Elite Dancers and has helped to promote Northwich businesses on footwear since the start of the year.
“I have customers all over the UK,” said Leanne, who puts her success down to the support of her family and friends.
“My reach is gradually spreading overseas but the vast majority of customers are local – I’ve seen My Little Pony trotting past Boots, Harry Styles in New Look and Spiderman in Barclays.
“The thrill of seeing a happy customer with one of my designs never goes away.”
Leanne is now taking Christmas orders.
