Pub fundraiser for hearing dogs for the deaf
11:20am Friday 27th September 2013 in News
A PUB is lead-ing the way with its fundraising for a hearing dog for deaf people.
Dolores Fallon and Andy Jones, landlords of The Lion, in Moulton, are holding a fun day on Saturday complete with bouncy castle, tombola, raffle, face painting and a cake stall.
Funds raised will be donated to Deafness Support Network (DSN), which has a headquarters in London Road, in Northwich.
Cash will go towards DSN’s sponsorship of a hearing dog.
Dolores, also management support officer at DSN, said: “I’ve seen first hand through my role at DSN how much difference hearing dogs can make to a deaf person, they can be truly life-changing, so we wanted to do our bit to raise money towards the training of a hearing dog.”
Bar staff at the pub will also benefit from receiving basic British Sign Language (BSL) sessions, to help them communicate with deaf people.
Dolores added: “I’m now au fait with most of the signs for drinks so people can order in BSL.
“I believe this is an important skill for our staff”
The fun day will take place from 1pm to 4pm.
