Pets at Home to hold microchipping weekend
A NORTHWICH pet store will be helping owners to protect their beloved animals from being lost or stolen by holding a microchipping event this weekend.
Pets at Home will hold the two day event on September 28 and 29 and will be sharing the message that microchipping is the most effective way of increasing the chances of a missing pet being returned safely to its owner.
New government rules mean all dogs in England must be microchipped by 2016 or owners will face fines for non-compliance.
To help owners meet the deadline, Pets at Home is offering a special rate of just £10.
Store manager Vanessa Gee said: “With microchipping, if your cat or dog is lost or stolen, there is a better chance you will avoid any heartache and be re-united with your beloved pet.
“The 2016 government law is getting closer and closer and we’re here to help our customers ensure they meet the deadline by offering the simple, relatively painless procedure for a reduced rate.”
The chip is roughly the size of a grain of rice, fits under the pet’s skin and contains information about its owner, making it easier for both to be reunited should they become separated for whatever reason.
At Pets at Home, when a chip is implanted, every pet is given a unique code number, which is then stored along with the owner’s contact details on the UK’s largest registration database, Petlog.
