The Parcel is launched in Davenham
A VILLAGE theatre was packed out for the launch of a new book about kindness, fun and field mice.
Mike Beddard’s children’s story The Parcel, charmingly illustrated by Rudheath artist Rebecca Yoxall, was revealed to an eager public during an arts and crafts day at Davenham Players Theatre.
Davenham man Mike, himself a member of the theatre group, said: “At about 1pm it was quiet and I thought maybe it’s holiday time, everyone’s away or the kids are back at school so everyone’s busy but then suddenly the place was full, it was packed to capacity.”
Crowds flocked to hear The Parcel brought to life by members of Davenham Players at 1.30pm, which went ahead despite some technical hiccups.
“We were supposed to have Rebecca’s images fired on to a screen while Davenham Players read the story,” Mike said.
“It didn’t happen but rest assured – at Davenham Players the show will go on.
“A book, unless you misplace it, never lets you down but technology does.”
The Parcel is a follow up to Mike and Rebecca’s first collaboration, Lost in the Snow.
It follows the fortunes of the mice of Beauty Bank, a fictional location based on mid Cheshire’s villages and countryside and inspired by a field mouse Mike encountered in the control room of the Players’ theatre.
In The Parcel the characters have to solve the mystery of a missing package in time for the crowning of the May queen.
Rebecca said: “The books are lighthearted and fun but with a moral message about helping each other.”
Mike added: “They’re about re-paying kindness shown by others, it doesn’t matter how big or small.”
The books are available to buy at Davenham Post Office, Riverside Organic, in Whatcroft, VAC Gallery, in Northwich, and The Sweet Shop, in Northwich.
