A LAST minute fundraiser has been planned by a Northwich grandmother about to start pioneering cancer treatment.

Linda Whitney and her family and friends set up fundraising group Bella’s Butterflies when Linda was diagnosed with lung cancer and given just six months to live.

But she found out on Friday that she had been accepted for pioneering radiotherapy treatment at The Christie, which could extend her life for five years.

Nicky Naylor, her daughter-in-law, said: “She’s a healthy lady so this has come as a real shocker.

“She’s adamant that she’s going to live for as long as she can, hers is a good fighting story.

“All she’s focused on is sponsorship – we’re trying to raise as much as we can to donate to the new radiotherapy trial that she’s been picked for.

“The Christie put her forward because she’s healthy.

“If it gives her five years that will be a bonus and they’re working on treatments every year.

“We’re all taking it a day at a time but everything is a step forward and we’re making some good memories.”

Linda, who has seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, started chemotherapy on Monday and will begin the pioneering radiotherapy in about three weeks.

The 62-year-old has lived and worked in Northwich all her life, working in town centre shops J Griffiths Greengrocers, H Samuel and Cottage Frames over the years.

The fundraiser will take place at the Wings Club, in Station Road, at 7.30pm on Friday, September 13.

On the night there will be a disco, raffle, head shaves, leg waxing and a dance off. All are welcome.

Anyone who wants to donate or who wants more information about the fundraiser should ring Nicky on 07770 452708.
