Beatlemania comes to Northwich with one-man roadie play
10:10am Sunday 1st September 2013 in News
BEATLEMANIA is coming to town, 50 years to the day that the band last came to Northwich.
‘Beatle Mal’, former road manager and close friend of The Beatles, will be brought back to life in a one-man play from actor Nik Wood-Jones, who brings the 6th Beatle to the Harlequin Theatre on September 14.
This funny one-hander showcases the life of Mal Evans through his time with The Beatles contrasting with his own personal life.
Nik Wood-Jones said: “This is The Beatles from a different perspective.”
Mal started out working part time as a bouncer at the Cavern in between being a telephone engineer.
He began working for The Beatles full time in the summer of 1963 at the height of the band conquering Britain.
“He also appeared in their films, lived with Paul McCartney as his housekeeper for a while,” added Nik.
“The play is a drama, with the emphasis on Mal telling us about his time with his life, contrasting his life with The Beatles and his own family life.
“Mal had a very sad end in 1976 and kind of had a premonition that he and John Lennon would be shot.
“The play is an entertainment putting Mal, a loyal and much-loved Beatles inside – the gentle giant as he was known – centre stage for a change.”
