HOOKED Greenbank youngsters netted a reel treat after Weaver Vale Housing trust organised a trip to the fisheries at Chester Lakes.
The trip, part of a number of summer activities planned by the Trust following the opening of the Community Hub in June, saw 13 children head to the fisheries.
The children were accompanied by fishing enthusiasts from the Trust’s trade staff who provided one-to-one tuition and organised a ‘catch of the day’ competition – won by Wayne Squires with a 25lb 2oz haul.
Georgia Winstanley, community engagement officer for the Trust, helped organise the event and is a Trust neighbourhood development officer.
“For five years we have run this fishing trip to reward youngsters who are making a positive impact in their community,” she said.
“It also teaches them a new skill and gets them doing something active during the summer holidays.
“A big thank you to our trade staff and retired tradesmen who worked at the Trust who volunteered their own time to take part and helped to make the event possible.”
