FUNFAIR rides, healthy cookery, burgers, crafts and music combined on Saturday to create a community fun day at a Northwich Park.

Visitors enjoyed the day at Vickersway Park, also known as Roker Park, where they could browse displays in the great outdoors or duck into the popular craft tent to avoid showers.

The event was organised by Northwich Town Council in a bid to give something back to the community.

Chris Shaw, Northwich Town Council’s clerk, said: “The idea was to make is accessible so there was no charge to get in and most of the activities were free of charge.

“It’s all about bringing the community together. I’m really pleased with how it’s gone – a lot of people have turned out and the weather’s been fairly kind to us.”

Carolyn Shepherd, from ArtWork Studios and Gallery, had a stall in the craft tent where she invited adults and children to design postcards from Northwich. A total of 183 were made.

She said: “Why not get people to create a postcard based on what they like about Northwich? It gets people thinking about what’s good about Northwich instead of moaning.”

These postcards will be sent to Northwich’s twin towns of Carlow, in Ireland, and Dole, in France.

Clr Gaynor Sinar, from Cheshire West and Chester Council, also had a stall in the craft marquee, which she helped to fund.

“The family fun day was brilliant,” she said.

“I was there in the afternoon and on my stall we made 20 miniature gardens in two hours.

“Lots of gingerbread men were decorated and there was a constant queue for face painting.”

The event was inspired by a fun weekend to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee last summer and plans are already in the pipeline for 2014.

Chris Shaw said: “We will do it bigger and better next year.”
