Naughty boys con residents using Cieran's name
BOYS have been conning kind hearted Northwich residents by pretending to collect money for a Northwich schoolboy.
Cieran Kelso’s family are now urging people to make sure they only donate at official events and do not give money on the doorstep.
The seven-year-old lost both his legs below the knee, as well as several fingers, when he contracted meningococcal septicemia in 2006, just as he learned to walk.
This prompted his family to launch a fundraising drive to help buy him prosthetic legs that are more lightweight for an energetic boy than the cumbersome limbs available to him on the NHS.
His stepmum Gemma Burnett said: “Some naughty boys have been going round claiming to raise money for Cieran and conning innocent people out of money, which was never to be given to Cieran.
“We would like to warn people that if anyone calls at their homes asking to sponsor them or to donate money in aid of Cieran's Trust Fund, not to as this is not something we do.
“We only ever hold large, organised events, which are well publicised.
“We hope this incident, which has been dealt with thanks to Northwich Police, will not deter our local community from supporting Cieran.”
