IT was a day to remember on Saturday as Weaverham showcased a range of talents as the village show celebrated its 20th anniversary.

Visitors were treated to a spectacular display of vegetables, flowers, photographs, cakes, preserves, handicrafts and artwork.

Children’s decorations for teapots, plates and jugs covered the walls of Weaverham Community Centre, while flower displays, photographs and cakes depicted every aspect of the village show’s history.

This year’s Weaverham Parish Council Shield for the ‘best in show’ was presented to Cheryl Hamilton for her beadwork.

To mark the 20th anniversary, a memory board was erected, allowing visitors to post their own memories, photographs and press cuttings from days gone by.

Elizabeth Gidley, secretary of the show, said: “There were a lot of lovely comments left on the board but one that I think was written by child summed up the event in a nutshell – it said ‘I liked it’.

“The committee thanks all of the people who entered exhibitions for a fantastic display, the judges who give their time and expertise, the sponsors, the community centre who provided delicious cream teas and every one of our volunteers who work so hard behind the scenes.

“It was a lot of hard work but full of happy memories – here’s to the next 20 years.”

Kate Cawley, National Federation of WI handicraft judge, added: “It’s a few years since I’ve been to this show and the standard is definitely going up, so many lovely exhibits. Each entry needs looking fully.”
