A HOST of scarecrows will be joining in the fun of an unusual village event this summer.

The annual and much-anticipated Moulton Crow Fair, featuring its unique crow dance, will take place at Main Road playing field from 1pm on Saturday, July 13.

Each year visitors flock to see the dance, performed by village men disguised in the iconic crow costumes, and enjoy a variety of other displays and stalls at the event.

Since last summer’s event, Moulton Facebook Group, which was set up to unite Moulton residents past and present via social media, has gone from strength to strength, doubling its number of ‘likes’ from 230 to 430.

This group is determined to put something back into its community so has come up with a variety of additions to the fair and the run up to it.

Barry Gibson, one of the group’s managers, said: “We’re doing it because we love our village.

“Moulton has given us what we are and now we’re giving something back and we just enjoy doing it.”

The main event organised by the Facebook group is a scarecrow trail and competition, running from July 5 to 13.

This will see villagers vying to build the best scarecrow and scoop a trophy and £100 prize.

Visitors can pick up a free trail map from the Co-op, in Whitlow Lane, to make sure they see all the creations, and find clues to also win prizes.

The scarecrows will be judged throughout the week and the winner announced at the crow fair.

Barry said: “We’re trying to get quite a few little extras in, we’ve got all sorts.

“We’re getting bunting up in Regent Street to get a party atmosphere and there will be some surprises.”
