PLANS to build a crematorium in Davenham will not be decided on today, Thursday.
Crematoria specialists Westerleigh Group hoped their plans would be given the go ahead today by Cheshire West and Chester Council’s (CWAC) strategic planning committee, but a last minute decision means they will not be discussed until April.
The plans, which would see the erection of a crematorium building on land just off the A556, on Shurlach Lane, had been recommended for approval by planners.
Rival company Memoria Ltd are also hoping to build a crematorium in the Northwich area, with their plans to build on land bordering Lach Dennis and Lostock Green currently being decided at appeal after being refused by CWAC last October.
Richard Evans, managing director of Westerleigh, said: “We are naturally disappointed that our planning application will not be heard this week but we want to be sure the council follows protocol properly.
“Our scheme will proceed quickly when approved, which I trust will be in a few weeks’ time.
“I remain in no doubt that Westerleigh’s scheme for a new crematorium is far and away a better option for the local community.
“I am confident that when our application is considered, councillors will find it convincing.”

You also plan to either close the gap in the central reservation or at the very least prevent vehicles turning right. All sorts of issues arise from this action from delayed fire services responses to farms down the lane to thousands of miles of unnecessary travel due to vehicles having to travel the opposite direction in order to reach their destinations! Not a sustainable option is it!
If one of the two crematoriums has to be given the green light surely the Lach Dennis is the better option of the two because of its more rural location.
We will wait and see the outcome, are CWAC council crazy or not?
