Vehicle stops to ensure child safety

CHESHIRE Police has been improving the safety of young children being transported to and from places of education by carrying out vehicle checks across the county.

During the operation, which ran during the first week of March, officers examined taxis, coaches, minibuses and drivers used to transport children, ensuring that vehicles were on the road legally.

Vehicle checks took place at Neston High School, Hartford CE High School and St John’s Wood School in Knutsford, where officers inspected the vehicles for road safety, maintenance, and licences drivers.

They also checked to see that each vehicle had the correct badge system from the local authority.

Action was taken against drivers of 14 the 52 vehicles stopped.

Those with defect vehicles – which ranged from brakes, defective tyres, lighting and emissions – were issued with fixed penalty notices or cautioned with a view to repairing faults.
