TWO 'fly-through' videos have been produced to give residents an idea of how the Barons Quay development could feel.

One of the three-dimensional plans shows the development from Town Bridge, travellng along Weaver Way to the proposed multi-screen cinema.

The other shows the entrance to Barons Quay from the proposed new car park on top of the supermarket and down a trevelator.

I am all for the Barons Quay development as any inward investment in Northwich has been long overdue and cannot be bad for our town. The town desperartely needs a cinema and more bars / cafes etc. The 3D video fly through certainly gives a good insight as to what the Barons Quay development will look like. However, I can't help think that the town planners have missed a trick as surely some thought must be given to redeveloping the river frontage from the bridge to Baron Quays. We need to open up the whole town to the river.

Love it, love it, love it. Very excited now i've seen this fly-by video. Cannot believe that anyone would think of it as an eyesore! it's fantastic. Let's get this redevelopment started sooner rather than later. Come on Northwich, We don't have to desperately cling to the past just because time slips bye! Let's embrace the future and create a better, more vibrant culture for our children.

These so called 'fly through' videos are a dishonest con as anybody with half a brain can see. It doesn't matter whether people are for or against the current Barons Quay development plan, they do not deserve to treated as simpletons by those who are desperate to hide the reality of what they propose to inflict on the town.

People who do want a better idea of what the developers have in mind would be advised to have a look at the Halton Lea shopping centre in Runcorn. Although it was opened in 1972, there are a number of remarkable similarities with the Barons Quay proposal. The architecture looks familiar with perhaps slightly less glass. There are a number of large shops, many unoccupied and a large multi screen cinema which is virtually deserted on most evenings. The area is dominated by a very big ASDA superstore which, by remarkable coincidence, is exactly what the Barons Quay developers are intending to put into the centre of their Northwich development. Although you would never guess if you looked at their video.

The video also indicates, by the way, that traffic will be totally banned from the town in the future, including the swing bridge, which could explain the decision to retain the gyratory system. Perhaps the council has a cunning plan!

Everybody rightly wants to see the Barons Quay site developed to its maximum potential. Somehow, a warmed over version of Halton Lea with an ASDA at its centre does not fit the bill.
