A CONCERT – Strings at the Abbey – with the Vale Royal String Orchestra and clarinet soloist Oliver Janes will take place on Sunday, March 10.

Taking place at Vale Royal Abbey, the concert will focus on British 20th century music with the exception of Carl Nielsen’s Little Suite for String.

David Whalley, the orchestra’s manager, said: “It is a great privilege to perform at the Abbey as it generates an atmosphere that encourages great performances.”

The concert features, as their main work, Finzi’s Clarinet Concerto, which will have the young and talented Oliver Janes as the soloist.

As well as Finzi’s work, Elgar’s Elegy will also be performed, as a tribute to Alan Cross – one of the orchestra’s founders.

The other works in the concert are Grace William’s five movement Sea Sketches, Delius’s Two Aquarelles and Britten’s Simple Symphony.

• The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets are priced at £12 (£6 for school age children) which are available from Andrew Ball at ndrewball@martonsands.co.uk or 01606 593260.
