Double water burst nightmare

WATER problems in Weaverham, Cuddington and Barnton should be solved by 6pm today, Tuesday.

Residents reported low pressure and in some cases no supply at around 10pm yesterday, Monday.

United Utilities say this is down to a burst in Fieldway, in Weaverham.

A spokesman said: "We had an inspector out in the early hours who located the burst in Fieldway.

"We've been working for most of the day but it's quite a tricky one because it's nearly three metres deep.

"It takes time digging down to the pipe and we've had to take extra safety precautions.

"We're carrying out the repair now and hoping to have it finished between 5pm and 6pm, then the water should be back to normal from that point on as we start sending water back through that part of the network."

This incident comes just days after residents and businesses in Bartington and Antrobus were affected by a burst on the A49 on Friday.

Davenports Tea Room was forced to close for the afternoon.

Owner Belinda Davenport said: "We had to turn lots of our customers away because we had no water.

"You don't like doing that.

"A nearby neighbour lost water at 7am and we had low pressure until 1pm, which is a peak time for us, then it went off for the afternoon."

The United Utilities spokesman said: "They're unrelated incidents, it's just an unfortunate coincidence that they've happened in a similar area.

"The A49 burst was resolved on Friday evening.

"We apologise to anyone who's been affected."
