CHILDREN are being offered free cycling training in a series of workshops throughout February.

The sessions have been organised by Cheshire West and Chester Council for children aged between seven and 11.

They will be held at Frodsham Fire Station from Monday, February 18, to Friday, February 23, from 9.15am to 11.15am and offer young people the opportunity to learn to ride, or improve on basic skills.

Provided by trainers Cycle Experience, the Learn to Ride course offers two hours of riding in a traffic-free environment for beginners whist Levels One and Two involve a six-hour course over three consecutive days which establishes basic skills before venturing onto the road.

Clr Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and recreation, said: “This series of free workshops for young people presents an exciting chance to help our young people develop their cycling skills, increasing their confidence in learning to ride safely on the roads.”

Children enrolling on the Level One and Two course must already be able to ride a bike.

Places are restricted to ensure safety on the roads, so bookings will be accepted on a first come first served basis.

Each participating child must have a roadworthy bike, front and rear brakes and a cycle helmet that fits properly.
