RESIDENTS are being asked for their views on west Cheshire’s new draft cycling strategy which sets out council policy for the next 15 years.

Clr Lynn Riley, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s executive member for community and environment, said: “Learning to ride a bike is part of our childhood, and for most of us triggers great memories.

“Unfortunately it’s something we learn to forget as we get older.

“One of the main aims of this cycling strategy is to get people thinking differently about how they might get around and try to remember why they wanted to cycle when they were younger.

“For many years we have been investing in schemes that make cycling safer and more available and this strategy makes sure that the option to cycle becomes an integral part of our major regeneration schemes.”

Clr Jill Houlbrook, chairman of the cycle working group, said: “The draft cycling strategy sets out our 15-year plan and proposals to actively make cycling cheaper, safer, attractive and more convenient.

“Our goal is to encourage more people to take up cycling as their first choice, particularly for shorter trips.

“The strategy explains the role cycling can play in travel, leisure, health and environment and sets out how it can become more important to the social and economic vitality of our borough.”

The consultation runs until January 9 and short questionnaire is available on Cheshire West and Chester Council’s website cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk/cyclingconsultation.

Copies of the questionnaire are also available in libraries, information centres or by calling the council’s customer contact centre on 0300 123 7036.
