PLANS to build a massive pipeline linking Winnington, Lostock and Warmingham are being unveiled tomorrow, Thursday.

Tata Chemicals in Northwich and British Salt in Middlewich have announced a series of consultations for new pipelines to connect the two sites, just weeks after Tata’s incinerator scheme was approved by appeal.

Winnington and Lostock residents will get to have their say on the plans at two exhibitions on December 20 and 22 at Winnington Park Recreation Club.

The proposed pipe network will carry brine between the two factories but no further details had been revealed as the Guardian went to press.

Stephen Bray, community engagement manager for Tata Chemicals Europe, said: “British Salt and Tata Chemicals Europe are holding public exhibitions in Middlewich and Northwich to talk to their neighbouring communities about proposed new brine pipelines connecting our sites.

“All are welcome to the exhibitions, at which members of project teams will be on hand to explain the proposals, answer questions and record comments.”

Both Lostock Gralam and Warmingham Parish Council are concerned about the plans, fearing they could impact on local businesses.

Nicola Clarke, clerk to Lostock Gralam Parish Council, said: “The council is obviously worried about the implications and feels that Tata play their cards close to their chest and who knows what this will do to other local businesses.

“We will attend the public meeting and will also be writing to Tata to clarify the position.”

A spokesperson for Warmingham Parish Council, who was given just a weeks’ notice of tomorrow’s consultation at British Salt, said: “We received a letter on December 6 regarding a consultation by British Salt about the proposed construction of new twin pipelines from Warmingham brinefield to Middlewich and beyond.

“It is disappointing that notification of the consultation dates came too late to include in the parish council monthly parish newsletter but a copy of the British Salt letter is now online at warmingham.org.uk.

“This proposal may well have a considerable impact on the village, especially regarding even more heavy traffic, so parishioners are urged to attend one of the consultation days to be able to put forward an informed view. "

The exhibitions will take place at the British Salt factory in Cledford Lane, Middlewich on December 13 between 5.30pm and 8pm and on December 15 between 9.30am and 1pm.

There will also be consultations at Winnington Park Recreation Club on December 20 between 5.30pm and 8pm and on December 22 between 9.30am and 1pm.
