Your views sought on Police and Crime Commissioner elections

HOW much do you know about the upcoming Police and Crime Commissioner elections and do you think they are important?

On Thursday, November 15, voters will go to the polls to choose who they think should take over from Cheshire Police Authority.

The Commissioner will represent the Cheshire community, provide a link between the public and police and be accountable for how crime is tackled in the county.

But when the plans were announced in 2010, Cheshire Police Authority said it feared that the change would create ‘tension and conflict’ between the chief constable and the commissioner and ‘politicise policing’.

For a forthcoming feature, the Guardian would like to hear what you think about the election and the changes.

Do you think having a commissioner is a change for the better or worse?

Do you feel strongly about voting on November 15 or do you think it is pointless?

The best way to avoid 'politicising the police' is to vote for an independent candidate.

In my experience, Martin Bell was excellent when represented Tatton as an independent MP. I wonder if there is any chance of persuading him to stand again at the next general election?
