QUESTIONS are being asked about why the roadworks at a busy Lostock junction have still not been completed.

Developers began building a new road entrance to the Lostock Triangle development on January 14.

My guess is that they may well have to dig up the road again. It is so frustrating.

John Bailey, licensee of the Smoker, who has been told electrical problems are halting work

Work was expected to last for 12 weeks, which would have meant the A559 Manchester Road being reopened on April 7.

John Bailey, licensee of the Smoker restaurant in Plumley, said he had heard that everything was in place but there was no electricity for the traffic lights.

He said: "My guess is that they may well have to dig up the road again. It is so frustrating."

John said his business hadn't suffered too much but others were getting fed up.

He said: "If you live in Knutsford or Manchester and come to the Smoker you have to drive all the way down and around the Morrison's roundabout.

"We all understand that roadworks have to be done."

A Cheshire County Council spokesman said: "We are overseeing the project.

"We are working with the developer and contractors to look at ways of reopening the gyratory on the A556 as soon as it is safe to do so."

The spokesman said she was unable to comment further as it was the developers CDP fo Elland who were actually doing the work.

No-one from CDP was available to comment as the Guardian went to press.

Rather than playing around with their new 'shadow authority', Cheshire County Council should pull their finger out, stop failing to take responsibility by just "overseeing the project", and fix the problem.

Simply opening the road as it is now would do, wouldn't it?

The whole thing is a joke. The road is all complete and I for one am fed up with the five detour to get home when I am coming home from work in Manchester.

The traffic lights have only just gone up after all these years so why not just take the light units down until they are needed and let the traffic flow.

it is not just the lieks of the Smoker suffering what about the shops on Manchester Road like the newsagent who must have been hit badly with th eloss of passing trade and regulars that can't drive by.

Come on CDP - there is enough disruption to Lostock Gralam wih your development without this.
