Police release images of suspect

POLICE are on the look-out for a man who stole a cash card and then went on a shopping spree - spending more than £2,600 in just four hours.

The man allegedly took the card and a digital camera from a handbag at a doctors' surgery in Knutsford on March 10, before drawing money out of a cash machine in the town.

At 12.26pm he then headed to the Tesco Express store in Kingsmead to start his spree.

His next stop saw him buying clothing at Rosebank Sports in Witton Street at 12.50pm, before driving to Sainsbury's in Stockton Heath at 1.17pm. He finished his spending at 1.36pm at Morrison's in Warrington.

We have been given a possible name, which we are making enquiries into, but if anybody has any names then obviously we would like to hear from them and the more the better really.
PC Jamie Blyth, from Cheshire Police

By the time the owner realised the card had gone missing, the final bill had amounted to £2,635.

Police believe he bought cigarettes, mobile phone top-up vouchers, clothes and perfume.

They also released CCTV pictures of a man wanted for questioning.

PC Jamie Blyth, from Cheshire Police, said: "We have been given a possible name, which we are making enquiries into, but if anybody has any names then obviously we would like to hear from them and the more the better really.

"Any assistance is gratefully received."

The handbag belonged to a member of staff at the medical centre and had been left unattended, but out of view, in an office.

The man was caught on CCTV cameras at several locations, and these images have been circulated to other forces in the north west.

If you recognise the man call PC Blyth on 0845 458 0000 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Hang on a minute.

How on earth did he manage to withdraw cash from a cash machine with this stolen card? Did the silly woman leave a recording of her PIN Number in her handbag?

It's just not possible to withdraw cash from an ATM without knowing the PIN.
