A RARE illness has not stopped an Antrobus school girl from fundraising and helping others in need.

Celia Bentley has been named as our second teenager of the month after being nominated by Antrobus Village Hall Committee.

Celia, 16, has a very rare tumour shared with less than a handful of people in the UK.

She has had two six-hour operations to debulk the tumour and has had 15-months of chemotherapy.

She has lost her hair twice and suffers from severe headaches and fatigue. She requires daily injections and will need lifelong medication. She has also lost half of her sight.

The committee said: "Not only does Celia fundraise for the village hall but in 2004, she raised £200 for the tsunami appeal, in 2006 she raised more than £150 with a car boot sale and in 2007 she raised more than £1,500 at school.

"In the past she has also raised funds for Macmillan nurses and a variety of other charities.

"Celia hardly ever misses a day at school despite her headaches and fatigue and is studying for her GCSEs this year.

"She is a house captain at school and has been a buddy' to a younger pupil who also had a brain tumour.

"Celia wants to become an oncology nurse because of her experience during her chemo treatment."

The committee added: "She is a very valued member of the village hall fundraising committee and regularly leads a team of teenagers who help to run the supper clubs which are a major part of our fundraising events.

"She loves to cook and her baking is greatly appreciated at many events.

"She has recently helped with an Easter Egg hunt and last year helped with a treasure hunt and a mock auction which raised valuable funds for the village hall. Celia was part of the team which won the Calor Gas Vibrant Village of the Year competition for Antrobus in 2007.

"As part of the team she gave a presentation to the judges and escorted them on their visit."

Celia said: "I am absolutely delighted and honoured to get this award."

Do you know Celia or another teenager who deserves an award. Fill out the form in this week's Guardian or click on the link below.
