Quincy Oscar Brillant 2009, £5.98, Morrisons
Two bargain-priced French wines starting with a dry white that's nothing to do with a long-gone TV series about an US coroner, writes Nick Nunn.
This Quincy is a small appellation in the Loire region producing lovely crisp Sauvignon Blanc wines with grapefruit and gooseberry flavours. Brillant means bright but it's brilliant too and just 12.5% alcohol.
La Vielle Ferme 2010, £6.99, Morrisons
A brand that's been around for many years with only slight label changes from the Roman town of Orange in the Ventoux area of the Southern Rhone Valley.
Long-term success comes from the skill that makes this blend of Grenache, Syrah (Shiraz), Cinsault and Carignan grapes into a rich but smooth wine with bags of cherry and blackberry.
