Chateau Tour St Bonnet 2006, £8.98, Morrisons

At the above price until November 20 you save around £2.50 on this French gem – and that is worth doing, writes Nick Nunn.

What you get is a typical blend from the Medoc region of Bordeaux – a classic mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes. There are more than 1500 vine-growers making their own versions of this soft wine with its strong blackcurrant tastes.

Corks still rule here too and the alcohol level is a nice 12.5%.

The Best Gavi 2010, £7.98, Morrisons

Italy's north west close to the border with France and the Piedmonte region is the home to this lovely white which really is worth tasting if you want a dry white that's different.

Historic Gavi is made with the Cortese grape that's unique to the area and is thought to have first been produced to send to the nearby port of Genoa so it could be drunk with fish dishes.
